Sándor szamosfalvi Panajott, the overseer of the Csendőrség

He started his probationary service July 19, 1881, at Marosvásárhely, and successfully passed the csendőr officer exam at Szeged, in 1882. On April 16, 1904, he was promoted to the rank of colonel, and assumed the position of csendőr overseer. The following May 1st, he was promoted again, to the rank of major general. In 1907, he was conferred with the title of nobility, and with the use of the forename szamosfalvi. His leadership and organizational skills proved invaluable during the Csendőrség’s formative years. He established garrison and officers’ libraries, and placed great importance on the officers’ and enlisted practical development training. He made it his life’s goal to elevate the Csendőrség to European standards. Under his oversight seven professional csendőr books were published. On his proposal, the csendőrs planted fruit trees in the gardens surrounding the csendőr garrisons, thus they enriched the country with 10, 000 trees. During his active service as well as after his retirement he published numerous professional articles. He was a just and conscientious overseer who did not accept compromises, therefore his subordinates respected him, and regarded him with affection. He retired on May 24, 1908.
